John Askey

After calling time on a 19-year playing career at Macclesfield Town, John Askey stayed on at the club in a coaching capacity. Following a short spell as assistant manager, and with the club struggling at the bottom of the Third Division, he was appointed manager for the first time in October 2003. He returned to his role as assistant manager before the end of the season and he later managed the youth team, but he was once again appointed to the top job in 2013.
His second stint in charge proved more successful. The team finished as FA Trophy runners-up in 2017 and he also guided the club back to the Football League as champions of the National League in 2018.
He was most recently manager of League One club Shrewsbury Town.
