Jose Gomes is a currently the manager of EFL Championship side Reading, a role that he has held since December 2018.
He started his coaching career in his early 20s as a youth team coach in his home country of Portugal, and from 1998 to 2003 he worked as a fitness coach at various clubs, enjoying a stint at Benfica.
In 2003 Portuguese club Paços Ferreira gave Gomes his first opportunity as a manager. He has subsequently coached in Hungary, Spain, Greece, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, counting União Leiria, Videoton, Al-Taawoun, Al-Ahli and Rio Ave amongst the clubs he has managed.
As a member of Jesualdo Ferreira’s backroom staff, he also spent several years as assistant manager of Porto, Malaga and Panathinaikos.
