Counter-pressing

This session is aimed at influencing player behaviour on the loss of possession. We work very hard to affect player behaviour in the transition from attack to defence, as the counter-press is an important feature of our playing style.

Biography

Danny Cowley is regarded as one of the brightest young managers in the game, his partnership with brother Nicky progressing from the Isthmian League to the Championship. A former player with Romford and Hornchurch, Danny cut his managerial teeth alongside Danny Scopes at Concord Rangers in 2007, leading the Essex outfit to the Essex Senior League title and promotion from the Ryman League Division 1 North. At the end of the 2011/12 season Scopes stepped down leaving Danny Cowley in sole charge. Concord's rapid rise continued with promotion to Conference South in 2013. The club also won two Essex Senior Cups and reached the First Round Proper of the FA Cup for the first time. Danny departed Concord for Braintree Town at the end of the 2014/15 season, as did his younger brother and assistant manager Nicky, who made 268 appearances for Concord as a player, the majority as club captain. The Cowley brothers continued their impressive record at Braintree, leading the part-timers to the Vanarama National League promotion final, unfortunately losing to Grimsby Town. Their success attracted the attention of Lincoln City and they moved to Sincil Bank in May 2016.  Both Danny and Nicky joined the Club on a full-time basis having previously combined their football management with jobs as Physical Education teachers at Fitzwimarc School in Rayleigh. Their first season in charge of the Imps was nothing short of remarkable as they led the club to the Vanarama National League title and the last four of the FA Trophy plus a historic FA Cup run which came to an end at the quarter-final stage after knocking out Premier League Burnley and Championship sides Ipswich and Brighton. The following season Lincoln reached the EFL Cup final at Wembley. In their third campaign the brothers took Lincoln into the third tier winning the League Two title. They subsequently moved to Huddersfield, steering the club away from relegation to League One.
