Coaching Sessions

Go deep

Go deep

This session is all about how and when to go deep, attacking the room behind the shoulders of the opposition’s defensive line.
Building up and transition to defend a cross

Building up and transition to defend a cross

This session is about how we get our centre backs to build up play against two or three opponents (two strikers, or two strikers and one midfielder) and it helps players to understand what would be needed in the face of opposition pressure. It also teaches players that as soon as they lose the ball, they have to react to defending a cross from the side.
Match preparation

Match preparation

This session is focussed on preparing players for an upcoming opponent, specifically with regard to getting them to understand their options for playing out from the goalkeeper against the exact formation they are likely to encounter. It also prepares them to play against the opposition when outnumbered in certain areas of the pitch.

Biography

Gabriele Cioffi started his coaching career at Carpi in his home country of Italy, where he served as an assistant coach for the 2012-13 season. In July 2013 he was appointed as the head coach of Gavorrano but he soon relocated to Australia and worked for two years as a youth coach for Eastern United.

He subsequently moved to the United Arab Emirates, where he joined Henk Ten Cate’s coaching staff as assistant head coach at Al-Jazira Club. After helping Al-Jazira lift the UAE President’s Cup and return to the Asian Champions League, Cioffi joined Gianfranco Zola’s coaching staff at Birmingham City in the EFL Championship.

In October 2017 he returned to the UAE to become assistant manager of Al Dhafra and he helped save the team from relegation. He then moved back to England to take over as head coach of EFL League Two club Crawley Town in September 2018.

After a spell as assistant head coach at Udinese in Italy’s Serie A, Cioffi was appointed caretaker manager in December 2021 and in his six months in charge he managed to guide the club out of the relegation zone and to a 12th place finish in the league.

He was most recently head coach of Serie A club Hellas Verona.
