Blind side running

Blind side running

At any level, a huge number of goals come about through players making intelligent, measured blind side runs. These runs work when balls are slid down the sides of centre backs and a full back, but they need practice, split-second timing and a good understanding of the weight of a pass.

Biography

Gary Megson has held nine managerial roles with his most recent appointment at Sheffield Wednesday. He played for seven teams - including Sheffield Wednesday twice, following in the footsteps of his father Don. Gary had been thrust into management as caretaker at Norwich in 1995. He then took charge of Blackpool before guiding Stockport to eighth in Division One, the club's highest ever finish. His next assignment, at Stoke City, was truncated after four months when an Icelandic consortium took charge of the club. Megson had also beaten the odds at West Bromwich Albion where he twice won promotion to the top flight. Having missed out in the play-offs shortly after his arrival at the Hawthorns, the Baggies snatched second place from West Midlands rivals Wolves in 2002. They were relegated the following season but stormed back to the Premier League in 2004. At his next club, Nottingham Forest, Megson took the conscientious decision of resigning after failing to check the club's slide into the third tier. A brief association with Leicester City preceded his appointment by Bolton. At the Reebok Stadium, Megson inherited a side that were bottom of the Premier League but fought off relegation and he also led the Trotters to the last 16 of the UEFA Cup for the first time in their history. They stayed up by taking 11 points from their last five games. In the 2008/09 season, success was again with Bolton leading them to a 13th place finish. Megson and Bolton then parted company in December 2009 before he later joined Sheffield Wednesday. Megson was confirmed as the new manager of Sheffield Wednesday on February 4, 2011. He remained with the Owls for just over 1 year as they parted company with Megson despite being in 3rd place in League One. His final game in charge saw Sheffield Wednesday defeat local rivals Sheffield United in the Steel City derby. He then had a spell as caretaker-manager back at West Bromwich Albion having been a coach under Tony Pulis.
