Biography

Greg Abbott led Carlisle United to Wembley in his first full season in charge – the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final against Southampton – at the end of the 2008/09 campaign. It capped an entertaining first season for the Coventry-born manager, who had already been at the club for three years as assistant to Neil McDonald and John Ward. Having also worked with Brian Kidd at Leeds United’s academy, tutoring teams from Under-10 right up to Under-18 level plus the reserves, Abbott’s coaching experience includes spells in the non-league game at Guiseley and Thackley. More recently, Abbott has held positions at Bradford City, Notts County and Mansfield Town. As a player, he turned out for Bradford City, where he won the Division Three title in the 1984/85 season, as well as Halifax Town, Guiseley and Hull City.
