Coaching Sessions

Decision making in the final third

Decision making in the final third

This session is all about recognising the best opportunities for playing through, over or around the opposition’s defence. For example, running this session helps players to work out the best attacking options for the team, whether that is passing direct into the striker or playing an early ball out wide for a quick cross because the opposition’s back line is dropping.
Back four protocols

Back four protocols

The purpose of this session is to assess and coach the specific roles of the defensive unit, to include defensive protocols, communication and recognising triggers.
Switching play

Switching play

Use this session about switching play and switching the point of attack to show your players how to exploit space on the pitch and ultimately create more goal-scoring opportunities.
Counter-attacking with speed

Counter-attacking with speed

This is a counter-attacking session in a 3v2 scenario. It is a fantastic training exercise to generate a good tempo, with lots of attacks at goal.
Defending the counter

Defending the counter

This is an important session to practise if you want to play a high defensive line, because at some point it’s inevitable you will lose possession and become exposed and vulnerable to a counter-attack.

Biography

Lee Johnson was most recently manager of Bristol City. Johnson was previously manager at Barnsley and before that, Oldham Athletic, when he entered management for the first time and became the youngest manager in English football. In a playing career spanning 468 first-team appearances and 40 goals, his two longest spells were at Yeovil Town and Bristol City, both when his father Gary was manager. Johnson helped Yeovil win promotion to the Football League and then to League One before joining Scottish side Hearts. He also starred for Bristol City, helping them win promotion to the Championship. Latterly Johnson played for Kilmarnock and he set up the winning goal as they beat Celtic 1-0 in the 2012 final of the Scottish League Cup. In his first full season in charge at Oldham, he led the Club to a 15th place finish in Sky Bet League One.
