Counter-attacking quickly and efficiently is often the best way to defeat good defences, so it’s important to practise this because defences are now so well organised, even at youth level.

Biography

Neil Dewsnip is technical director at Plymouth Argyle. He was previously head coach to the England Under 18 Team. Before his six years at the FA he spent 17 years at Everton’s academy, becoming head coach. He oversaw the development of players such as Wayne Rooney, Jack Rodwell, Leon Osman and Ross Barkley.
