Defending crosses

Defending

This session enables defenders to learn how to best to repel a number of different crosses into the box. We test defensive strength against four different deliveries – an inswinging cross, and outswinging cross, a cross that’s laid back on the wing, and a second phase cross.

Penetrating the opposition defence

Attacking

Get your players penetrating the opposition defence with clever runs and passing. Encourage attacking players to get on the half turn when receiving, ensuring they’re aware of where the next pass is going.

Biography

A double promotion-winning manager with both Southampton and Scunthorpe United, Adkins began his coaching career in the League of Wales as player-manager of Bangor City, winning the title in consecutive seasons. The former Wigan and Tranmere goalkeeper made the unusual conversion from physiotherapist to manager at Scunthorpe in 2006, winning the League One title in his ﬁrst season and guiding the club back to the Championship for a second time two years later. He subsequently led Southampton back to the Premier League with consecutive promotions and has also managed in the top ﬂight with Reading. After a season with Shefﬁeld United, he was appointed boss of Hull City in December 2017 departing at the end of his contract in June 2019. He is a graduate of the LMA’s Certiﬁcate in Applied Management at Warwick University.
