Finding the third man

Finding the third man

This session is about encouraging players to work in threes, using passing combinations to find the third man free of his defender. This concept is a huge part of our possession style at Fulham.

Biography

As a player, Scott Parker played nearly 600 professional games, mainly in the Premier League for Charlton Athletic, Chelsea, Newcastle, West Ham, Spurs and Fulham. He also won 18 caps for England and won the Football Writers' Association's Footballer of the Year award. After hanging up his boots at Fulham in 2017, he started his coaching career at Tottenham Hotspur, working with the club’s U18s. However, in July 2018 he returned to Fulham as first team coach, linking up with his former manager, Slavisa Jokanovic. Appointed the club’s caretaker manager at the end of February 2019 with Fulham one place from the bottom of the Premier League, he was unable to prevent relegation to the Championship despite winning three of his nine games in charge. But such was the improvement in form, at the end of the season he was given the manager’s job on a permanent basis. He justified the choice by leading Fulham back to the Premier League at the first attempt.
