Dougie Freedman joined Bolton Wanderers in October 2012, with the Trotters in the lower reaches of the Sky Bet Championship table. A dramatic upturn in form saw the club narrowly miss out on the end-of-season play-offs, on the final
day of the season. The 39-year-old had previously been in charge of Crystal Palace.

As a player, Freedman was a prolific striker for Barnet, Palace, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Nottingham Forest, Leeds United and Southend United.
