Joe Dunne was manager of npower League One side Colchester United, and in his first managerial post has succeeded in guiding the Essex club away from relegation danger despite operating on one of the division’s smallest budgets.

The 39-year-old was already familiar with the workings of the club having taken the positions of youth team coach, reserve team coach and first-team coach over the past decade, and he also turned out for the Us during his playing career, making 164 appearances in the heart of the defence.

Injury ended his playing days at the age of just 30, but he also appeared for Gillingham and Dover Athletic.
