Neale Cooper returned for his second spell in charge of Hartlepool United in December 2011. He had previously taken the reins at Victoria Park in 2003, guiding the club to the play-offs in League One in consecutive seasons.

A short spell at Gillingham followed, before a three-year spell in Scotland with Peterhead.

Returning to Pools, Cooper guided the north-east club to a 13th-placed finish last season on one of the division’s smallest wage bills, and the 48-yearold is looking for his side to push on again this term in a highly competitive division.

As a player, Cooper won the Cup Winners’ Cup with Aberdeen in 1983, and was nicknamed ‘Godzilla’ because of his ferocious tackling.
