Defensive headers

This session examines the skill and art of defensive headers. It’s a simple exercise, but practice makes permanent.

Biography

A prolific lower division goalscorer David Kemp played for Crystal Palace, Portsmouth, Plymouth Argyle and Carlisle United before enjoying a spell in America before hanging up his boots. His first experience of management came in 1985 when he took charge of Swedish side Hagahoden, from Norrkoping but after one year he returned to England for his first spell with Wimbledon, being first team coach when they won the FA Cup in 1988. He enjoyed two years as manager of Plymouth Argyle before taking the reins at Vauxhall Conference side Slough Town. At Slough, he guided the club to 5th place in the Conference, their highest-ever finish. Four years as assistant manager followed with Crystal Palace, Wycombe Wanderers and Millwall, his greatest success coming with The Eagles who were promoted to the Premier League as Division One champions in 1994. He subsequently worked at Wycombe, Millwall, Wimbledon again, and Portsmouth, before becoming manager of Oxford United Having worked with Tony Pulis at Portsmouth they hooked up again at Stoke and Plymouth before being reunited at Stoke again in 2006. The pair helped the Potteries club to reach the Premier League and retain their place for many years. Kemp then worked with Pulis at Crystal Palace, West Bromwich Albion and Middlesbrough.
