Richard Money

Richard Money began his managerial career with Scunthorpe United before spells as head of youth development at Aston Villa, first team coach at Coventry City and coach at Manchester City and Nottingham Forest. He added to his experience coaching sides in Sweden, as manager of successful club AIK and Västerås SK, and in Australia with Newcastle United Jets in the inaugural season of the A-League. His first title came after being appointed manager of Walsall in May 2006. Money led the side to promotion to League One as champions in 2006/07. Money then joined Luton Town after serving as Newcastle United's Academy Director at St James Park. Money was named Conference manager of the month for March 2010, after winning seven out of eight games. He then guided the club to a 2nd place finish in the Conference (2009/10), narrowly missing out on automatic promotion to League Two. He remained with the club until March 2011, with the Hatters once again in contention for promotion, being placed 3rd in the Blue Square Bet Premier. During his time with the club, Luton gained 127 points and scored 127 goals in 64 league games which earned him the best league record of any Luton manager. He also achieved this whilst staying true to the club's tradition of free flowing attacking football. Money next guided Cambridge United to victory in The FA Trophy final for the first time in their history by beating Gosport Borough 4-0 at Wembley. More success was to follow for both Cambridge and Money as he guided the club back to the Football League after a nine-year exile that same season, with another victory at Wembley in the play-off final. He was subsequently academy director at Atlanta United, then Norwich City, then manager of Solihull Moors and Hartlepool. As a defender Richard Money followed in the footsteps of Ray Clemence and Kevin Keegan in being a former Scunthorpe player to move to Liverpool. Signed in May 1980 from Fulham for £350,000, perhaps his best memory of playing for Liverpool was when he played in the European Cup semi-final against Bayern Munich in Germany. Although the game finished in a draw, Liverpool went through on away goals to face Real Madrid in the final.
