Keepers: crossing and distribution

This is a keeper session that looks at dealing with crossing then distributing into counter-attacking areas beginning with a good warm-up before moving into basic handling drills, then progress to dealing with crosses and distribution, starting off unopposed then putting in defenders and attackers.

Biography

Goalkeeper Billy Mercer began as a trainee with boyhood club Liverpool, turning professional at the age of 18. He went on to sign for Rotherham United in 1989, making 104 appearances for the Millers. A short period playing for Sheffield United followed before a loan spell at Chesterfield developed into a permanent transfer and he would go on to make 164 appearances for the Spireites, helping to steer the club to an FA Cup semi-final against Middlesbrough in 1997. He went on to sign for Bristol City in 1999 before becoming the club’s goalkeeping coach. Further appointments at Sheffield Wednesday followed before joining Burnley. He has now been goalkeeper coach at the Premier League club for more than a decade.
