In possession: counter-pressing principles

In possession: counter-pressing principles

The session is based around our principles across two key moments of the game: first, our work in possession and second, our reaction to counter-press.

Biography

Marc Skinner is Manchester United Women’s first-team coach and Charlotte Healy is the assistant coach.

As head coach of Birmingham City Women, Skinner led the Blues to an FA Cup final and fifth place in the Women’s Super League. Moving to the USA in 2019, he coached Orlando Pride in the NWSL to their record-equalling unbeaten run of nine matches, before returning to England in 2021 to take over at Manchester United. His team reached the FA Cup final and finished runners-up in the WSL in 2023, taking them into UEFA Women’s Champions League competition for the first time ever.

Healy was part of the FA’s first-ever Coaching Excellence Initiative course for the women’s professional game in 2022. At Manchester United, she has also been the women’s academy manager and the under-21s head coach. Prior to that, she was Manchester City’s WSL academy head coach and Liverpool Women’s under
23s assistant coach, and has also worked in development roles for the FA.
