Biography

Dougie Freedman is sporting director at Crystal Palace whom he previously played for and managed. He has held the role since August 2017. As a player, Freedman made 368 appearances for Palace and scored 108 goals. Dougie spent ten of his sixteen years as a player with the club. He won two Scotland caps and also played for Barnet, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Nottingham Forest, Leeds United and Southend United. His managerial career began as a reserve team manager at Palace while playing for the first team. He then combined coaching and playing at Southend before returning to Palace as Paul Hart's assistant in March 2010. He became caretaker manager at Selhurst Park early in 2011, soon being made manager on a permanent basis. He secured Palace's Championship status for the 2011/12 season then enjoyed further success in 2012/13, most notably in the League Cup where he guided Palace to the semi-final, knocking out Manchester United at Old Trafford along the way. He left Palace in 4th place in the Championship prior to his appointment at Bolton Wanderers. The Trotters narrowly missed out on a play-off place in 2012/13 by finishing 7th. He became manager of Nottingham Forest in February 2015 departing 15 months later. He previously played for the club making 83 appearances scoring 23 goals.
