In this session, technical, physical and social elements combine into a passing and receiving practice that works on all elements of passing and receiving, including first touch, awareness, scanning and communication, along with some position specific work.
Attacking with forward runs

Attacking with forward runs

Exploiting space and getting behind the opposition defence is a great way to create scoring opportunities. This session is designed to encourage players to make forward runs without the ball, in order to break the last line of defence.

Biography

A versatile defender who turned out for Hibernian, Celtic and Wigan, Gary Caldwell made over 50 appearances for Scotland before hanging up his boots. Moving into coaching in early 2015, he joined the staff at Wigan Athletic’s academy and was promoted to first team manager just a couple of months later. Unable to halt the club’s relegation to League One, the following season he guided Wigan back to the Championship as champions. In recognition of this achievement, he received the award for LMA League One Manager of the Year for 2016. He subsequently enjoyed spells as manager of Chesterfield and Partick Thistle.
