Biography

Gary Johnson has managed more than 1,000 matches in a long management career during which he has won six promotions. He is currently manager of Torquay United steering them from National League South back into the National League. From 2015 to 2018 he was manager of Cheltenham, where he took the club back into the Football League in his first full season. He spent two years managing the Latvian national team, and previously served as director of Watford’s youth academy. In two stints at Yeovil Town he won the FA Trophy, led the club to Division Three in 2002, saw them crowned champions of League Two in 2005, and achieved promotion to the Championship in 2013, for which he was voted LMA League One Manager of the Year. He led Bristol City to promotion to the Championship in 2007 and has also managed Cambridge United, Kettering, Peterborough, and Northampton.
