Passing forward with a purpose

Passing forward with a purpose

Recognising when to pass forward, sideways and backwards is a core skill and something that must be practised. This session aims to help players understand the importance of passing forward when the opportunity is there to break the lines of defence.

Biography

Guy Whittingham joined The FA as a coach educator on August 1, 2014. Guy, a holder of the Uefa Pro License, was previously the manager of Portsmouth and first team coach at Crawley. He was initially in caretaker charge at Fratton Park from November 2012 and was development coach prior to that. He is also a member of the club's Hall of Fame, having scored 99 league goals – including 42 in the 1992/93 campaign – in 177 appearances for the Blues. Whittingham was part of the side that reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup in 1992 and then went agonisingly close to winning promotion to the Premier League the following season. He went on to play for Aston Villa and Sheffield Wednesday before returning to Pompey for a second spell in 1999.
