Biography

As a player, Whitney had been a defender who plied his trade at Huddersfield Town, Wigan Athletic, Lincoln City and Hull City, until injury forced his retirement at just 30. After hanging up his boots he ran a sports therapy business and in 2003 was appointed physiotherapist at Walsall, going on to hold various different coaching, fitness and sports science roles. In January 2011, he was appointed assistant manager and combined this with his role as the club’s physiotherapist. He was appointed manager of Walsall in June 2016. He subsequently worked for Hartlepool United as a fitness and sports science consultant.
