This training session is all about building up play in the middle third in a 3-4-3 formation. It’s important at any level to give players several options going forward and then it’s up to them to execute what they see in front of them.

This is about high quality of crosses into the box with good finishing. It’s important to practise this because it is basic technique, skill and tactical awareness that ultimately leads to goalscoring chances being created.

Biography

Steve Clarke is currently manager of Scotland. Prior to that he was manager of West Brom, Reading and Kilmarnock. Clarke entered management for the first time after more than 10 years of Barclays Premier League experience under his belt. Steve, who has held his UEFA Pro Licence since 2006, succeeded Roy Hodgson at Albion in 2012. He enjoyed an extremely successful first season in charge at WBA, as having guided the club to an 8th place finish, it recorded their highest ever finish in the Barclays Premier League. He later  took Reading to their first FA Cup semi-final in 88 years before departing in December 2015. He steered Kilmarnock, his boyhood club, from the bottom of the Scottish Premiership to European qualification winning several manager of the year awards before being named Scotland manager in May 2019. Clarke has also served as assistant manager at Chelsea, Newcastle, West Ham and Aston Villa, and as first-team coach at Liverpool. Since beginning his coaching career in 1998, Clarke has worked alongside some highly-respected managers including Jose Mourinho, Sir Bobby Robson and Kenny Dalglish. During his playing days, Clarke played over 400 games for Chelsea during an 11-year career at Stamford Bridge.
