Numbers up

The session is called ‘Numbers up’ and is a two-part practice that mainly focuses on attacking principles of play. After an unopposed strike at goal, the session develops in number and builds up to a 2v2 small-sided game. The practice involves my D.O.T approach: D – direction, O – opposition, T – transition.

This activity is about executing a variety of different shooting and finishing techniques. Players will have opportunities to try and score from longer range (from over 20 yards out) with minimal pressure, as well as close range shooting, rebounds and finishing from crosses with high pressure.

Role: Head of coaching (under-8s to under-12s)

Previous clubs: Dagenham and Redbridge, Southend United, Arsenal, Watford

Started coaching: 1997   

Highest coaching qualification: UEFA A Licence

Biggest achievement as a coach: Seeing young players progress into the senior game, whatever level they reach
