Biography

Peter Taylor began coaching in non-League and rose to take charge of an England match. Taylor's coaching career started as player-manager of non-league Dartford before moving into the Football League with Southend. While at Dover he was asked in 1996 by former team-mate Glenn Hoddle to take charge of England’s U21 side, the first of three spells as coach of England youth teams. He also served one match as caretaker manager of the senior side, famously giving David Beckham the England captaincy for the first time. In his club career he won Division Two with Brighton, led Wycombe, Hull (twice) and Gillingham to promotion, and managed Leicester in the Premier League. In international football, he won football gold with Bahrain at the 2011 Arab Games. His most recent managerial role was at Dagenham and Redbridge. As a player Taylor was capped by England while in the third tier with Crystal Palace. He also played prominently at Tottenham and Southend.
